Make tonight a movie night. . .
There is a reason why I have listed this film as # 1. It's my all time FAVORITE movie! "Let the Right One In" is a remarkable film about the life of a vampire living in modern day Sweden. The movie stays true to the vampire genre by incorporating all we know and have learned about the creatures. I have recently seen the film "Twilight," which, in my opinion, insults vampires and the genre by entwining both with a boring plot of romance that goes nowhere. I can seriously say that there were times during "Twilight" that I just wanted to drop-kick my TV and burn the DVD. If you are looking for a great movie about vampires that will keep you intrigued, excited, guessing, and entertained, then I suggest that you watch "Let the Right One In;" you will not be disappointed at all.
Well told horror story with George C. Scott playing the role of a widower music teacher. After the death of his wife and daughter, he moves to Seattle in hopes of starting a new life in a grand old mansion. Unfortunately, his new home turns out to be haunted by the troublesome ghost of a murdered child bent on revenge after 70 years of torment.
I was blessed by my mother on Christmas with this SUPERB animated film that I haven't seen in ages. "When the Wind Blows" is a sad story of war. After watching this movie, I was heart-broken. 
Though a low-budget, independent film, "The Skeptic" is a fascinating ghost story, and now, one of my favorite films. Following the death of his aunt, Bryan Beckett inherits the family mansion which is, from his first night there, haunted. However, Beckett, being a skeptic dismisses all thoughts of a haunting, and always offers an excuse as to what may have caused the weird occurrences in the house. Odd things continue to happen in the mansion and Beckett learns that he can no longer offer any explanations. Soon, with the help of Cassie (the lovely Zoe Saldana), Beckett uncovers a horrible secret about his family, one that he, himself, has buried deep inside himself. 
So I've always believed the stereotype that French cinema sucks. For some French films, especially the contemporary ones, this has been a correct generalization. ;) However, for this particular film, it's not. I was thoroughly impressed with the "Eyes Without a Face." This black and white, French language film will keep you on the edge of your seat. 
This Native American supernatural thriller has to be one of the best that I've seen this year! The storyline is brilliant and very suspenseful. When Shayla returns to the reservation to visit her family, she is haunted by visions of what she thinks happened to her missing brother. However, at the end of the movie, we learn that the visions that Shayla see are not at all related to her brother, but is a message of something that will test her strength and change her "white-washed" view of her people.
Belen Rueda has to be one of the best Spanish female actresses that I have ever watched. It's hard to believe that she is still such a new actress. This Spanish language film, I would say, has a plot that is reminiscent of the classic ghost story. It is an atmospheric, very sad film about a haunted house and a woman who struggles with reality. Though I don't like most of the films by Del Toro, I would have to say that he really did a great job with this one. The acting was superb and the plot was great! If you're looking for a haunted house film, I recommend this one to you!
I just saw this movie a few weeks ago and it was phenomenal! Everything about it was great! This is the first Italian language film that I have seen and it was full of suspense. A young boy, Michele, finds another young boy who has been kidnapped, trapped inside a dark hole in the ground near where he and his friends play. Michele takes a liking to the young boy, as he brings him food, keeps him company, and on occasion, takes him out of the hole and plays with him. Little does Michele that his PARENTS are responsible for the little boys kidnapping. 
This is a Spanish language thriller that I found to be great! Santi, a teenage boy, is photo-sensitive, meaning that he cannot be in the sun at all. His condition is growing worse and the doctors convince his mother to leave Barcelona and go to Asturias, Spain where the climate is not so hot and the days are short. It is in Asturias that Santi finds out a horrible secret about the previous owners of his house. "Shiver" is not a ghost story, but a movie that shows how those who do horrible things and try to cover them up, will be exposed in the end. 
I love fantasy films and I love "The Chronicles of Narnia." :) However, I found "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" to be far much better than the first movie. Once you get past how extraordinarily handsome Prince Caspian (Ben Barnes) is, this movie takes you on an adventure far beyond your imagination filled with action! The battle scenes are awesome, and for a moment, I felt I was watching some action packed macho movie, when in fact, it was a Walt Disney film. If you love fantasy films, I advice you to watch this one; however, it's mandatory that you watch the first "Chronicle"so that you won't be confused. I'm sure you will enjoy this one, and if you don't, maybe you will just enjoy looking at the GORGEOUS Prince Caspian! Tehehe!
So, I am not really a fan of "The Da Vinci Code" at all. In fact, I found it very boring and over-rated. However, this summer I had the chance to go watch "Angels and Demons," a film that I found to be excellent! Unlike "The Da Vinci Code," Angels and Demons is not a religious film, but a film about the evils of man. It is a mystery that kept me guessing, while all the time, my guesses were wrong. :) I was not able to figure the movie out until the entire thing was over! I love mystery plots like this one, and I suggest those of you who share my love for them watch "Angels and Demons!"
I can honestly say that this film exceeded my expectations completely. Though there are parts that seemed immature and comical in the film, the plot stayed focused and exciting. I can really say that this film was one of the best I have seen, and the ending is one that is unexpected! At the end I was thinking, "I can't believe that just happened!" I suggest that you watch "Drag Me to Hell" if you're looking for a thriller with a twist. 
"Who Can Kill a Child" reminds me a lot of the movie "Children of the Corn," only there's no religious/satanic reason as to why the children kill all the adults in their village. Tom and Evelyn, a British couple holiday on an island off the coast of Spain, only to find that there are no adults living on it; there are only children there. As time goes on, the couple is terrorized by the children, who seek to murder them; however, these kids meet their match, and thinking that just because they are "innocent children,"no one will not harm them, does not work this time. Tom retaliates to save his wife and unborn child.
This French masterpiece is so incredibly suspenseful! I have not seen anything as utterly brilliant in all my life. Cache is a movie about a family who is being stalked by an unseen person. This hidden person leaves video tapes on the porch of the family as they leave from and come to their home (how freaky is that?). Georges (the main character) has an idea who may be behind these videos, but he keeps his family in the dark about his suspicions. Director, Michael Haneke does a great job in directing this film because he keeps you guessing. I really enjoyed this movie because the message behind it is very strong and valuable. Not only was the message one of truth, but the acting is superb as well. I highly recommend this flim! It is definitely at the TOP of my list!
I just went to the movies the past weekend to see "Shutter Island" with my sister because I had read the reviews, particularly that of Roger Ebert, about how good the film was. To be honest, I was quite impressed with this film; however, there are some things that could have been done a little better like, for example, the ending, which was too predictable. The film was great though. The acting, of course with Dicaprio playing the lead role was awesome. The setting and the plot went together well and created a psychological mood. I really enjoyed "Shutter Island" though there were parts that needed to be different in my opinon! Definitely a must see! ;)
This movie is not as new as the ones that I have previously posted, but I still say that it's another one of my favorite movies. "The Descent" is action packed and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time! I simply love this movie!
